  • Why could LITHIUM be a LOST CHANCE for BOLIVIA? - VisualPolitik EN

Lithium is the lightest metal on the periodic table. It’s value has been multiplied by 10 in the last two decades alone. And it’s demand doesn’t stop growing. Between 60 and 80% of the world’s known reserves are in an area called the LITHIUM TRIANGLE. This is an area that covers parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. In these countries, lithium is abundant and easy to extract. In other words, this part of the planet might soon become the new Saudi Arabia. Despite these reserves Bolivia is exporting less lithium than the other two countries. So what’s going on in Bolivia? Why is no one exploiting their lithium resources? And why is Chile following suit? Today, we are going to answer all of those questions. Lithium is an opportunity for investment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJEo8R64a...

(limited) Get Started - https://teslanomics.co/td // It is so good for batteries that 39% of all Lithium production goes towards battery production. So what is Lithium anyway? Lithium itself is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. It is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. Like all alkali metals, lithium is highly reactive and flammable. So this isn’t something you’d want just laying around your house. Especially if you have a toddler running around like I do... So Lithium is a metal so it must be mined right, like copper? Well, not exactly. It’s true lithium can be mined from rocks but mostly it’s found in brine pools. Lithium is also present in seawater but there aren’t any commercially viable methods of extracting it at this time As an aside when you see a meme floating around the internet showing a giant mine where lithium comes from, it’s a lie. As of 2017, most of the world's lithium production is in South America, where lithium-containing brine is extracted from underground pools and concentrated by solar evaporation. The standard extraction technique is to evaporate water from brine. Each batch takes from 18 to 24 months. With so much demand for lithium it’s a fair question to ask... Are Tesla and others doomed? Well…not really The US Geological Survey’s report for 2017 shows that "Worldwide lithium production increased by an estimated 12% in 2016 in response to increased lithium demand for battery applications. Production in Argentina increased nearly 60%, primarily owing to a new brine operation; the leading Argentine producer also increased production. A producer in Chile reported that its production rose by 20%. Two small Australian spodumene operations, one new and one inactive since 2013, planned to begin commercial concentrate production by year end. Worldwide lithium production capacity was reported to be 49,400 tons in 2015; capacity utilization was estimated to be 64% in 2015 and 71% in 2016. Based on average projections by producers and industry analysists of about 14% growth worldwide, consumption of lithium in 2016 is projected to be about 37,800 tons, up from 33,300 tons in 2015. So the trend is going up, but when you look at the overall picture you find that owing to continuing exploration, lithium resources have increased substantially worldwide. Identified lithium resources in the United States, from continental brines, geothermal brines, hectorite, oil field brines, and pegmatites, have been revised to 6.9 million tons. Identified lithium resources in other countries have been revised to approximately 40 million tons. Identified lithium resources in Argentina and Bolivia are about 9 million tons each and in major producing countries are Australia, more than 2 million tons; Chile, more than 7.5 million tons; and China, approximately 7 million tons. Canada’s lithium resources are about 2 million tons. Congo (Kinshasa), Russia, and Serbia have resources of about 1 million tons each. Lithium resources in Brazil and Mexico are approximately 200,000 tons each and Austria, and Zimbabwe have more than 100,000 tons each. Beyond just producing more lithium, companies like Tesla have focused on creating a closed-loop battery recycling program since as early as 2011. So while Tesla drivetrains are rated to go 1M miles, and the batteries will likely last to last north of 350K miles, once the cars do get turned in, Tesla isn’t going to just throw away those precious metals. If you’re an investor in companies reliant on lithium for their batteries such as Tesla, Apple, Google, or any other company making electronics today, you shouldn’t worry about the supply chain. We’ve got a long road ahead of us and probably by the time we need to worry about a shortage of Lithium we’ll have a new way to make batteries that are even better. // Join Our Community on Patreon! Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thoisoi2 Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Thoisoi?ty=h Music: http://audiomicro.com Interesting chemical experiments: http://www.m.chemicum.com/ So today, I will tell you about the lightest metal on Earth - Lithium. Lithium is in the first group in the periodic table of chemical elements. Except for the smallest atomic mass, lithium has the lowest density of all metals, which is nearly 2 times lower than that of water. In appearance, lithium represents a shiny metal, which can be cut with a knife, but it would be required to exert sufficient force to achieve that. Lithium rapidly oxidizes in air, and while that is happening it’s being covered with a layer of oxides, carbonates, and lithium nitride black coating because this is the only metal that can react with atmospheric nitrogen at room temperature. Lithium can be stored in kerosene, however, due to its low density it will float on its surface. Now shall we look at some of the chemical properties of lithium. A piece of lithium reacts rather calmly with water, forming hydrogen and lithium hydroxide. If you ignite the released hydrogen, the flames will turn beautifully red, due to lithium ions. However, if we take lithium in the shape of thin lithium foil, which is used in lithium batteries btw, that will ignite and explode upon reaction with water, which is very dangerous. If you set fire to a little piece of lithium, it will melt, and then light up with are very bright white flame to then form lithium oxide during combustion. The temperature of burning Lithium in the air is more than 2,300 degrees Celsius. It is surprising, however, that when it’s melted at temperature above 300 degrees Celsius, lithium practically doesn’t oxidize by the air and its surface remains glossy. Li, as well as all other alkali metals, is an excellent reducing agent that easily loses electrons. If you ignite lithium on sand, it will react with the silica, that the sand consists of, forming an amorphous silicon. In addition, lithium reacts perfectly with sulfur. This reaction of lithium with sulfur formed so much energy that even our can melted, on which the reaction was carried. And yes, I have also burned through the carpet with this reaction, but that's alright, I have many carpets. The other very dangerous lithium property is that when it starts to burn while being on wood, it will pick up oxygen from the cellulose molecules that make up the aforementioned wood. As such lithium explodes, creating a lot of hot sparks. Do NOT try to repeat the experiment! Similarly, lithium can react with dry copper sulfate, recovering copper from its salt. These days Lithium finds many applications in science and technology. The most common use of it, of course, would be lithium-ion batteries and other power sources. Also, lithium is used in nuclear power, lasers, as well as metallurgy. Lithium compounds are used in medicine for the treatment of mental disorders; because of its ability to be an antagonist of sodium ions. JAMESTOWN, AUSTRALIATesla signed an agreement with the state government of South Australia, promising to build the world’s largest lithium ion battery in just 100 days, or it is free of charge. The 100-megawatt battery will be built at Hornsdale Wind Farm near Jamestown in South Australia. The project will be 60 percent larger than the battery systems in southern California. The lithium ion battery is comprised of several hundred PowerPack towers which will store renewable energy generated by the wind turbines. The system is said to be able to power more than 30,000 homes. Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk said the company could lose $50 million or more if they failed to deliver the battery in 100 days. The project is expected to be completed by December 2017. “It will completely transform the way in which renewable energy is stored, and also stabilise the South Australian network as well as putting downward pressure on prices,” Jay Weatherill, Premier of South Australia told ABC News. South Australia suffered two statewide blackouts last year when a 50-year storm damaged infrastructures and during the heat waves in Australian summer. The venture is part of Tesla’s endeavors to promote the transition to sustainable energy. The company has previously released energy products including the solar roof, solar city and gigafactory. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Argentina is, alongside with Chile and Bolivia, one of the three countries that make up the so-called LITHIUM TRIANGLE. The area where between 60 and 80% of the world lithium reserves are concentrated. So today’s question is… What happened to this country which improved their image in such a short time? Can they really become the leader of this lithium race? And most important of all… Can lithium turn Argentina into a new Abu Dhabi?

Lithium is an opportunity for investment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJEo8R64aTQ Lithium legislation in Chile: https://prensa.presidencia.cl/comunicado.aspx?id=27483 Bolivia builds a lithium battery factory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a62n70Cy2es And don't forget to visit our friend’s podcast, Reconsider Media: http://www.reconsidermedia.com/

Global Li-Ion Graphite Corp. (CSE: LION) is focused on the exploration and development of graphite projects for the emerging energy storage industry. They intend to become a principle supplier of graphite to the rapidly growing lithium ion battery industry — including Tesla’s expansive Nevada Gigafactory and others slated to open globally. In this interview, Jason Walsh, Chairman of Global Li-Ion, speaks with Hannah Bernard on why the company is focused on graphite. Principle among reasons is that it is a major component of an ion battery, and graphite is one of the last energy metals to catch up to the likes of lithium and cobalt. With China producing approximately 80% of the world’s graphite and graphite oxide and India having an aggressive plan to implement fossil fuel-free vehicles by 2035, Global Li-Ion’s projects in Madagascar could prove to be in an ideal location. The Chedic Mine, outside of Carson City, Nevada, is 20 minutes away from Tesla’s Gigafactory. The third graphite project is the Neuron Project outside of Thompson, Manitoba — thought to be one of the richest graphite discoveries in North America. Jason discusses Global Li-Ion’s partnership with BEGO Technologies. BEGO has developed a process to take graphite to graphene. Jason explains that when graphite is replaced with graphene in an ion battery, the battery charges fasters, holds its charge longer, operates cooler, and becomes lighter in weight. Jason describes Global Li-Ion Graphite as a well-structured company that is well-financed. The company was able to use stock as a currency to secure premium assets, and he sees the market in the beginning of a commodity curve. As it turns out, Tesla, and its battery partner Panasonic, started production of cells for qualification at the plant in December, but today, it confirmed the start of “mass production” of the new battery cell, which will enable several of Tesla’s new products, including the Model 3. The new cell is called ‘2170’ because it’s 21mm by 70mm. It’s thicker and taller than the previous cell that Tesla developed with Panasonic, which was in an ‘18650’ cell format. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been boasting about the new cell over the past few month. He said that it’s the “highest energy density cell in the world and also the cheapest”.
